One of the methods we learned about in our workshop is how to get the community more involved in the planning process and monitoring of projects. Many people are visual learners. Also, many cultures are hesitant to speak up about things that may be in conflict with those they see as superiors. In reality, for any of our projects to have any benefit, the local community must take ownership of what is happening.
There are many different activities that can be done to give groups the freedom to talk about ideas that are more helpful or a hindrance to their goals. Creating safe places of sharing, often with an artistic flare, brings people out of their shell and allows for open and honest discussions. This is a beautiful way of connecting.
